Service Conditions

1. General

These Service Conditions outline how Solent Glide Scooters provides and maintains e-scooter rental within Southampton. By hiring or reserving a scooter, you agree to these conditions. They are written in plain English to help you understand your rights and responsibilities.

2. Eligibility

Riders must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence or provisional licence with category Q entitlement. Proof of identity is required before hire. Helmets are strongly advised and provided on request.

3. Safety and conduct

Riders must follow local traffic rules, ride considerately on shared paths, and obey speed limits. Scooters are to be used only on public roads and permitted cycle lanes. Riding on pavements or under the influence of alcohol or drugs is not allowed. Damage caused by reckless use may result in repair charges.

4. Hire duration and return

Each hire starts when the scooter is collected and ends when it is returned to the agreed point. Delays of more than 30 minutes beyond the booked time may incur an extra hour charge. If a scooter becomes faulty, stop using it immediately and contact us — we will arrange collection or exchange.

5. Payments

All prices are listed in GBP. Payment is taken securely online or in person before hire. We use PCI-compliant payment processors and do not store card details on our servers.

6. Liability

We maintain insurance for public liability as required by UK law. This does not cover deliberate damage, theft through negligence, or use outside approved areas. Riders are responsible for personal safety and for returning scooters in the same condition as received.

7. Maintenance and faults

Our scooters are inspected daily. If you notice a fault — unusual noise, loose handlebar, or warning light — please inform us immediately. Do not attempt repairs yourself. Each report helps us maintain safe operation for all riders.

8. Data and privacy

We keep only the information needed to manage hires and comply with legal obligations. For full details, see our Data Use Guide.

9. Cancellation

Bookings can be cancelled up to 12 hours before start time without charge. After that, partial charges may apply to cover preparation costs.

10. Force majeure

If weather, road closures, or technical failures prevent us from delivering a booking, we will contact you promptly to arrange a reschedule or refund. We are not liable for indirect losses caused by such events.

11. Disputes and governing law

These conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be handled by the local courts of Southampton.
